VAN'S WEBSITE One evening, it came to me to ask Van, "If you were to have a website, what would it be about?" He said, "I don't know." I asked, "Well, what would you say you're life's been about?" Again, "I don't know. Maybe 'Journey"" We discussed the matter awhile, and kind of dropped the subject, and then it came to me, and I said, "Oh, My God. Oh My God!" I knew without doubt what it would be, and I said to Van, "It's 'Out of the Hole," about you finding your inner child (Little Ralph) in the hole, and you inviting him to come out." "Excellent!" came his reply, and he happily went to bed, since the conversation was over, as far as he was concerned. But, for me the evening was just beginning. I got out my notebook and began making notes for his website: "Journey Out of the Hole," incorporating his word, "Journey" into the title to make it more personally his, and not all my ideas. For clarification, I added "An Inner Child's Emergence of Self-Esteem," based on a comment he'd made a few days earlier relating to his lack of self-esteem. The thesis of the website still didn't seem quite clear, so I added, "Van's Journey of Self-Revelation." Ah Hah! Now it all made sense and we could make the website about many subjects that relate to him, not only his inner child. As much as I try not to be controlling and codependent, I just couldn't resist, so the next day I suggested that he create his website. Oh My God! What an ordeal, as Little Ralph (his inner child) went about creating. Try as I may, he wouldn't come up with any ideas of his own, although he loved building his own website. I could tell that it was a major step in his ongoing healing process. So, it began with him filling out the forms on the same free website builder I'd been using, Homestead. He gladly named it: JourneyOutOfTheHole, but he was going to add it to my website member name. "Oh no," I insisted, "you need your own member name." This took some discussion, but he finally agreed: RVANCAMP. Hooray! A major step forward. Once he got the form filled out, he pressed the button to complete the process, but a message appeared saying he'd done something wrong. The more he tried to correct the problem, the worse it got. For instance, the e-mail address he gave them (mine, instead of his) came back saying, "not a valid e-mail address." But when he used his own e-mail address, it went through fine. There was definitely another growing-up lesson going on for Little Ralph, and it was that he was to do this website in his own name, and not rely upon me or my website. I felt that my part was staying out of it and letting him do it. However, it turned out to be more of a partnership project, with my part being to help design the webpage by asking questions and suggesting next steps. Once on his own website Index Page, I urged him to select his background design, and he chose an appropriate one: "Celebration," which had a violet sidebar and colorful balloons on a white background for the rest of the page. What a change of patterns for him! Then he typed in the words that had come to me the night before, as mentioned above, and framed them with colors coordinated with the background. Looking good! I suggested that he add a smiling picture of him drinking his first "Prime," an HGH, anti-aging product, which I titled, "Van Starts His Prime." Amazingly, his T-shirt matched the colors on his website page, and I knew that he would want to link to the website of our networking business. Next he selected matching rectangles, for his links, and typed in the names that I suggested, such as "Come Out of The Hole" and "To The Airport," titles of chapters I'd written about his meeting, naming and getting acquainted with Little Ralph. Then we added "Knocking on Doors," the title of a book I'd written about his evolving through the depression of his corporate down-size and job layoff and trying to build our first multi-level marketing business, which included going door-to-door with our friend, Joyce, as his partner. At my suggestion, he also added a link to "Pilgrimage to Colorado," the story I'd written about our first trip together to visit his Aunt Betsy and his dad and other family members that he hadn't seen in twenty-years. Actually, scanning in this story, a few days earlier, began this whole website project, and I could see that I was being guided through this entire process in God's Divine Timing. I also understood that it was all part of Little Ralph's healing and Van's recovery process. At about this point, we'd stopped for a lunch break, which doesn't take me very long, but Van's habit of chewing each bite 30-times, takes much longer, so I hastened back to the computer and his website. I'd wanted to add a picture we'd recently scanned, of Van in his Navy uniform, when a young man. He looked so handsome, and I'd always wanted to marry a sailor, so this picture was special to me and I was anxious to get it placed. I knew better, because this was Van's project, but I couldn't wait, so I created "Van's Pictures" page, imported the prized photo into place and linked it to his Index. I also created "Van's History" page and transferred a partial biography that Aunt Betsy, Van and I had compiled while at her house. I felt good that this was going together so well, and I gave Van feedback and asked questions for his input, as I went along. When he finished eating, we continued working together, until he reached overload and got tired. But we were both delighted with the first day's results, and I knew that something wonderful was happening for Little Ralph and Van, as I took some more time and linked to his website from several of mine. Later, Van willingly checked my e-mail, and published his website so it was now available for anyone who wished to visit.
